We are a mother-son duo who launched Veganarke and its brand Goodmylk because we wanted to make veganism more affordable.
Abhay Rangan is our 21 one year old CEO. Veganarke was conceptualised when he was 18. Abhay started off with animal rights activism at the age of 16, when he founded a non-profit, Society for Animal Rights and Veganism (SARV). SARV organised more than 250 campaigns in over 10 cities in India. Abhay is a Stanford Innovation Fellow, a Tedx Speaker and a passionate Carnatic Musician, and has addressed audiences about animal rights and plant based food in more than 10 cities in 2 countries.
Veena, Abhay’s mother, is an engineering graduate who ran Veganarke’s entire manufacturing efforts single-handedly. Through her initiative and leadership, we moved out from our kitchen (where we initially manufactured) into a commercial manufacturing facility.
In March 2010, Abhay’s parents – Dr. Varadarangan and Veena- decided to turn vegan on their wedding anniversary. Abhay (then 13) and his sister Varidhi (then 11), inspired by their parents’ decision, decided to go vegan on New Year’s, 2011. Since then, as a family, they’ve never looked back.
Abhay would go on to start a non-profit that organised youth volunteers to campaign for animal rights in various places in India. It troubled Abhay that vegan alternatives were several times more expensive than dairy.
Thus, Veganarke was started, as an effort to make affordable plant-based alternatives to animal products that were nutritious, delicious and accessible to everyone.
